Well, here we are. I’ve now been an independent consultant for two years. It’s been such a great journey so far, and one that I need to write about at some point!
That being said, I want to get this newsletter out in a relatively timely fashion, so perhaps check out my blog later this week for my two-year recap post.
March has been a month where I’ve mostly been working from home, although I did sneak in a trip to Dublin for some We Are Open Co-op work with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. I also presented to a conference in Australia, participated in a ‘book sprint’, planned upcoming work in Canada, and got in a couple of Quality Mountain Days in preparation for my Mountain Leader award.

The best of what I wrote in March
How to build an architecture of participation
Badges, Proof and Pathways
Eight ways to think about digital employability
The best of what I read in March
Imaginaries and materialities of education data science
How Uber Uses Psychological Tricks to Push Its Drivers’ Buttons
How the Like Button Ruined the Internet
This xkcd on chat systems is spot on.
How “News Literacy” Gets the Web Wrong
Six Ways To Write Emails That Don’t Make People Silently Resent You
How Do We Connect First-Time Internet Users to a Healthy Web?
Availability for April/May
I have pretty much zero availability in April, I’m afraid, but still have some spare capacity in May, and much more in June. Do drop me a line if you think I may be able to help you and/or your organisation.
In April, I’m particularly looking forward to presenting at the Creative Commons Summit in Toronto. I’m also doing some work before and afterwards with clients in Canada. Let me know if you’ll be at the summit and want to meet up.
